Overview

On this 13-day journey starting in the luminous city of Arequipa you’ll first explore the rocky, mountain-region of Colca. You’ll start with a journey immersed in nature as you trek through the region taking in the pristine views and soaring condors. After your stay in Colca, the capital of the Incas awaits you. On your next destination, the capital of the Incan Empire – Cusco, you’ll take a thorough look into the Incan empire, their fascinating building techniques, history, culture and mystique. This Peru adventure wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of the 7 Wonders of the Wold, Machu Picchu. Feel the energy of this magical destination as you tour around the citadel. Your final stop on this Peru adventure will take you to the Tambopata region of Peru. This region known for it’s variety of bird will reconnect you to nature as you explore the local wildlife and plant life.

Tour Plan

Day 01: International Arrival in Lima

Assistance at your arrival to Lima International Airport and transfer to your hotel. There you will receive a briefing on your tour; receive vouchers covering all the services included in your tour and additional information on the organisation of your Peru trip.

Day 02: Lima / Cusco: Sightseeing Tour and Visit to Nearby Ruins

Early in the morning, after breakfast, transfer to Lima Airport to board your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Remainder of the morning free to rest and get used to the altitude and to take your Lunch. We recommended to take it in the restaurant of your hotel.
In In the afternoon, guided sightseeing tour in Cusco visiting the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun or Korikancha. Then, we drive out of the City to visit the Inca sites of Kenko, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the impressive Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, strategically built on a hill overlooking Cusco, famous for its enormous carved stones, some of them standing over 9 m / 30 ft high and weighing over 350 tons. Return to your hotel

Optional: Dinner in a typical restaurant with a folklore show where the musicians play their melodies with Andean instruments of beautiful sounds while typically dressed dancers will show you different ancient Peruvian dances.

Day 03: Cusco: Day off

Breakfast. Day off for personal activities.

Day 04: Cusco / Machu Picchu – Inca Trail (Cusco – Piscacucho – Wayllabamba)

At approximately 6:30 am, our guide will pick you up from your hotel to transfer you by bus to the km 82 where you will arrive at approx. 10:30 am. Here you will meet the team that will join you during the trek, such as the porters, camp assistants and cooks. You will begin the walk, the first day is quite easy and during the first kilometres you will have a beautiful view of the snow peaked Veronica Mountain, walking alongside the Vilcanota River until you arrive at the Archaeological Complex of Patallacta, where you will have lunch and gain energy to reach Huayllabamba, where the first camp is set up.

Day 05: Inca Trail (Wayllabamba – Warmiwañusca – Pacaymayo)

After breakfast, the hardest part of the trail begins, with a steep ascent, followed by 3 hours walking until reaching the first step, Warmiwañusca called (Dead Woman), up to 4200 m.a.s.l. approximately. You will not only enjoy incredible panoramic views from here but you will also have the satisfaction to have reached the top. After lunch in Vizcachayoc we will descend towards Pacaymayo (3500 m.a.s.l.) for dinner and camp.

Day 06: Inca Trail (Pacaymayo – Phuya Patamarka – Wiñay Huayna)

After breakfast the ascent will begin until the second more important step of the route, up to 3900 m.a.s.l., where you will enjoy a guided visit to the Archaeological Complex Runkurakay and the Inca Citadel of Sayacmarca (3600 m.a.s.l.). Lunch in Chaqquicocha. Then, you will continue walking towards Phuya Patamarka Town in the Clouds), another important Archaeological Monument. After a brief rest , we will continue walking until arriving at Wiñay Huayna (Always Young), for a guided visit to this spectacularly located Archaeological Complex . Dinner and overnight in the camp. Note: The above are the regular camp sites according to the circuit operated by Enjoy Peru, however, these can vary according to disposition levied by the Machu Picchu Management Unit without previous warning, but which will not affect the itinerary.

Day 07: Wiñay Huayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco

After breakfast (05:00 approx.), start walking for one hour by the forest until the Inti Punku (Door of the Sun), known like the front door to Machu Picchu, from where we will be able to have an impressive panoramic view of the Inca citadel. Upon arrival to Machu Picchu, you will have a guided tour of the ruins and monuments, such as the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and the cemeteries. Free time to stroll around the Citadel and then meet the rest of the group to be transferred by bus to Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon return to Cusco by train. Upon arrival in Cusco, transfer to your selected hotel. Evening free. We recommend you to dinner out at any of the restaurants in downtown Cusco and stroll around the Main Square.

Day 09 : Cusco To The Mountains Of Manu Cloud Forests

Leaving Cusco after breakfast around 7:00 am we travel through traditional Quechua communities and through the spectacular eastern ranges of the Andes to the village of Paucartambo, passing snow-peaks and small Andean farmsteads. We will have time here to look around this picturesque village with its colonial stone bridge and handsome plaza. We then ascend to the last pass overlooking the Amazon Basin and begin the breath taking descent from 3500 meters to 1600 meters above sea-level to our comfortable lodge in the orchid laden Cloud Forest. This is a spectacular journey passing cascading waterfalls and multicolored birds along the way. In the late afternoon, we’ll walk into the lodge to the sounds of Quetzals, Trogons and Gray-breasted Wood-Wrens. Night at our selected Cloud Forest Lodge

Day 10 : The Cloud Forest To Manu Wildlife Centre Lodge

A pre- breakfast short drive to a nearby spot in the Cloud Forest, we may see Grey Woolly monkeys or even the rare Spectacled Bear on the way, where the strange and beautiful Cock-of-the-Rock’s displays at dawn. This is a wonderful sight, as up to 25 bright red-orange males dance and sing, attempting to attract the favors of the duller, burgundy colored females. After visiting this lek we return to the Lodge for a leisurely breakfast and continue in our all terrain bus to the Madre de Dios River and our motorized dugouts and begin our journey down the river, through the last folds of the Andes to the isolated Pantiacolla range. Continuing down the Madre de Dios River, we’ll pass settlements and native communities during the trip. Just before we get to the village of Boca Manu we pass the native community of Diamante. Their culture is Piro and this is the largest settlement of Amerindians in the area. We should arrive in time for lunch and a shower (hot water) and get to meet whichever researchers (if any) are onsite. The afternoon is set aside to relax or, if you want, to explore a trail through the untouched forest to a canopy platform and an observation tower. The canopy platform is accessible via a spiral staircase so everyone can get to enjoy the rainforest canopy. One evening those who wish can participate in a night walk with your guide in search of nocturnal animals and visit the Tapir Lick. Tapirs, the largest South American land mammals are frequent visitors with up to 12 animals visiting in one night. We watch them from the comfort of mosquito nets and mattresses from our specially constructed blind. Other nocturnal creatures are always possible. The adventurous, on consulting with your leader may pass the night here and walk back to the lodge at dawn for breakfast. Night at the Manu Wildlife Center.

Day 11-12: Manu Wildlife CentreWe have two full days to explore the forest

lakes and trails around the lodge We’ll explore trails where groups of Manakins, perhaps the most enigmatic of neo-tropical birds, perform their strange mating dances. We may want, to explore a trail through the untouched forest to a lookout point on a cliff over the river to watch roosting flights of Parrots and Macaws as the sun sets.. An excursion for those who wish perhaps to the canopy tower or along quite trails looking for primates such as Emperor and Wedell’s Saddleback Tamarin’s, the endemic Urubamba Titi-Monkey and we have seen the rare Goeldi’s Monkey repeatedly in this area. One morning we’ll make an early start for the Blanquillo Macaw Clay Lick. This is truly one of the world’s great wildlife spectacles as hundreds of Parrots and their larger relatives, the Macaws, congregate at this traditional locality to eat the mineral rich clay that is essential to their digestion. We’ll use a comfortable blind (hide) to get close to the birds and breakfast will be served. The noise alone is incredible and the sight of these brightly colored birds at the lick is a sight not to be forgotten. As the lick slows down in midmorning we’ll head back to the lodge for lunch and a siesta in the hammock area of the roomy cool lounge area of the lodge. We’ll be on the lookout for Gray’s Bald-faced Saki Monkey, an uncommon and rarely seen monkey of the terra firma forest that is occasionally seen here. One morning we’ll take an excursion for those who wish, perhaps to the canopy tower or along quite trails looking for primates, Brocket Deer and the strange Pale-winged Trumpeter we have seen repeatedly in this area.. One morning we’ll head for Cocha Blanco or Cocha Camungo, old ox-bow lakes, in search of families of Giant Otters that live there, and canoe around the lake on our floating platform looking for other wildlife, including the bizarre Hoatzin. Here too are groups of Black Spider and Capuchin Monkeys. Each day we’ll take leisurely lunch at the lodge with time of to swing in hammocks or watch the multicolored Hummingbirds’ coming to the Butterfly bushes and feeders in the garden. We’ll explore other trails and perhaps enjoy a last rainforest sunset. Night at the Manu Wildlife Center

Day 13: Manu Wildlife Centre to Cusco or Lima

Early morning start as flocks of birds pass over the boat, and we may see a Capybara, the world’s largest rodent. Our destination Boca Colorado, a frontier gold rush town, where we’ll take local transport for an hour to the Inambari River and by paved road to Puerto Maldonado in order to catch the afternoon Commercial LAN Airbus flight to Lima or, depending on flight scheduled private bus or flight to Cusco.
